[Introduction]
The SC National Guard Air and Ground Expo was more than an event—it was a statement of strength, gratitude, and unity. Held at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover, South Carolina, the expo brought together air and ground forces to thank the community and showcase their joint capabilities. A celebration of service and connection, the 2017 McEntire Airshow brought together over 70,000 visitors from around the world. Over nice months, this social campaign transformed the event into a shared story—honoring aviation, community, and the spirit of the South Carolina Air National Guard.

My Approach: Vision and Innovation
My approach was to translate the power and purpose of the event into a compelling visual story. Using Photoshop, Illustrator, and my own photography, I crafted layered compositions that blended military precision with creative depth—capturing the intensity of F-16s, Apaches, Abrams tanks, and Bradley vehicles in motion. By merging atmospheric imagery with the human pride behind the demonstration, the final design system honored both the technology on display and the people whose service, teamwork, and purpose brought it to life.

Identifying Unique Challenges
With limited resources, I approached the Expo as an opportunity to try something we had never done before. By integrating creative storytelling with a strong social media presence, I highlighted the energy, precision, and excitement of the event—turning a live military demonstration into a shareable, online experience that amplified reach far beyond the base.
Resolving Complex Problems
Capturing a large-scale event like the Air and Ground Expo meant balancing multiple storylines: the aerial demonstrations, ground maneuvers, and community appreciation. The challenge was to convey scale and energy without losing clarity. Through careful composition, layered editing in Photoshop, and cohesive visual structure, I distilled the complexity into a narrative that felt powerful yet approachable—showing the synergy between air and ground forces in one unified story.
User-Centric Design
The audience for this campaign ranged from military families and veterans to first-time visitors and aviation enthusiasts. My focus was on accessibility—designing visuals that inspired pride while remaining clear and engaging. By combining original photography with intuitive design and familiar visual cues, I ensured that each post, layout, and asset spoke directly to the people the event aimed to honor: the community that supports the Guard.
Meeting User Needs
At its core, the Air and Ground Expo was about appreciation—showing the public how their support empowers the Guard’s mission. My design approach reflected that intent, using authentic imagery and grounded storytelling to connect emotionally with viewers. Whether showcasing the roar of an F-16, the precision of a combat rescue simulation, or the gratitude expressed by the Guard, every visual was created to meet the audience where they are—with clarity, respect, and purpose.
